Back to Basics with Dan - Square Squared
Dan Perkins is an award-winning piecer. His quilts have won blue ribbons throughout the US. Come learn how Dan ensures his blocks are always square, and precise, and his quilts assemble easily. Dan will be teaching the Techniques of piecing using the Studio 180 Design’s Tools. He will teach the basics for each tool, how to “Tuckerize” quilt patterns and to get your best block every time.
In this session Dan teaches the techniques for Square Squared. Finally a tool that simplifies the construction of the Diamond Square unit without having to use paper foundation piecing. The Square Squared is an all-in-one tool that gives you a window template for accurately cutting the center square, a chart printed right on the ruler for the recommended size to cut the triangles sewn to the four sides of the center square and a trim down section on the ruler that simplifies the alignment of ruler to fabric unit and allows everyone to clean up the unit to a precise measurement every time. This unit is a tricky one to get accurate, but with the Square Squared tool and technique of oversizing and trimming down you’ll have far better success than with any other product on the market.
What to bring:
~ Sewing Machine in good working Order, with fresh needle (extra needles)
~Small cutting mat and rotary cutter with sharp fresh blade
~Thread and 4 fat quarter scraps
~Snips/small scissors
~Magic Wand (Studio 180 can be purchased at the shop if needed)
~Fine Fabric Marking Pencil
~Studio 180 V-Block tool (contact shop to purchase yours if you do not have one)
| Requirements: | When signing up these classes, please note these are not beginner sewing classes but quilting classes to perfect techniques. You MUST own your own tool or be prepared to purchase one. No sharing of your friend’s. The designer has expended many hours calculating precisely the size and markings to ensure you get precise blocks every time. These hours, plus the cost to have “demo rulers” to “test” them is time and money. So, let’s please ensure we show our appreciation and purchase and buy your own patterns and tools! |
