Back to Basics with Dan - V Block
Dan Perkins is an award-winning piecer. His quilts have won blue ribbons throughout the US. Come learn how Dan ensures his blocks are always square, and precise, and his quilts assemble easily. Dan will be teaching the Techniques of piecing using the Studio 180 Design’s Tools. He will teach the basics for each tool, how to “Tuckerize” quilt patterns and to get your best block every time.
In this session Dan will focus on the V Block Tool. This tool is a must have if you like making quilts with tall star point units. Sometimes known as “Peaky and Spike”, a nickname attached to the unit about 20 years ago by a famous quilter, Doreen Speckman, this particular shape has perplexed quilters forever. With Deb’s tool, you’ll be cutting the center and side triangles slightly over sized and then with the same tool trimming the sewn piece to an extremely precise unit with seams perfectly placed for crisp, sharp points at every intersection.
What to bring:
~ Sewing Machine in good working Order, with fresh needle (extra needles)
~Small cutting mat and rotary cutter with sharp fresh blade
~Thread and 4 fat quarter scraps
~Fine Fabric Marking Pencil
~Magic Wand (Studio 180 tool for marking, can be purchased at the shop)
~Snips/small scissors
~Studio 180 V-Block tool (contact shop to purchase yours if you do not have one)

| Requirements: | When signing up these classes, please note these are not beginner sewing classes but quilting classes to perfect techniques. You MUST own your own tool or be prepared to purchase one. No sharing of your friend’s. The designer has expended many hours calculating precisely the size and markings to ensure you get precise blocks every time. These hours, plus the cost to have “demo rulers” to “test” them is time and money. So, let’s please ensure we show our appreciation and purchase and buy your own patterns and tools! |
